1. COUNCIL FOR GEOSCIENCE (CGS)
a) Position: Chief Executive Officer (2003- till 13 October 2011)
Selected Key Responsibilities:
• Providing leadership and managing activities of the CGS in various disciplines and projects: Some of the key projects are listed below:
o Undertaking geoscientific research in South Africa and abroad
o Undertaking geoscientific research projects for several South African Sate organs (e.g. Government Departments, Disaster Management Center, Eskom, Navy and Ports Authorities)
o Providing consulting services in respect of strategy and institutional reviews for geoscience institutions in other African countries
o Developing environmental strategies for mining pollution in South Africa (e.g. Regional Mining Closure Strategies, Strategy to address Polluted Mine Water in the Gold Mines of South Africa)
o Assessing Mineral Resources of South Africa and of other countries in respect of selected minerals
• Selected countries and regions where the CGS is/was involved
South Africa, Algeria, Ghana, Mauritania, Morocco, Gabon, Sierra Leone, Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, Madagascar, Papua New Guinea, Uganda, Malawi, Angola, Lesotho, Argentina, China, Japan and Middle East.

2. DEPARTMENT OF MINERALS AND ENERGY (SOUTH AFRICA): 1997-2002
a) Positions: Chief Director- Mineral Promotion and Director Mineral Economics
Selected Key Responsibilities
• Undertaking mining and mineral economics studies in South Africa and other countries. This includes mineral intelligence studies – trends and usages were assessed.
• Involved in the formulation and drafting of new mining policies and legislations.
• Part of the meeting that negotiated the current South Africa’s mining laws with the Chamber of Mines.
b) Seconded to the Gold Crisis Committee: Head: Gold Crisis Committee (GCC) Secretariat
Seconded to the Gold Crisis Committee (GCC) to be the Leader of the GCC Secretariat. The GCC was a committee, established to deal with the impact of low prices. The committee comprised the following members:
• Ministers of Labour, Minerals and Energy, Trade and Industry and Public Works.
• President of Chamber of Mines, CEO of Chamber of Mines and Executive manager.
• President of National Union of Mineworkers, General Secretary and Executive staff

• Managing and providing leadership for the activities of the Gold Crisis Committee.
• Mediating between mine employees and managers/employers in respect of downscaling and retrenchments in South Africa’s gold mining industry.
• Provide advice to the Gold Crisis Committee in respect of actions to be taken to address the depressed gold prices, declining gold reserves and associated job losses
c) Director: Mineral Economics.

• Leading and managing an gold exploration program - Archaean Greenstone Belt Gold Exploration - Barberton Area (Mpumalanga). The program involved:
o Geological mapping
o Geochemical mapping
o Trenching and identifying drilling sites
• Involved in both mine research projects and daily activities of mining geology (ore body modeling and predicting pay shoots).
